Yoga in bed
The mattress is a legitimate yoga surface
Purists frown; bodies don't. A mattress is a soft, warm, waiting surface for gentle supine work, and it's exactly where you already are at the two best practice times of the day — just after waking and just before sleep.
Bed yoga has honest limits: nothing weight-bearing on the hands, nothing balancing. But for hip releases, twists, and breathing, the mattress adds comfort that a mat can't, and it deletes the last excuse.
Make it work
- · Keep it supine and gentle — the softness that comforts also destabilizes anything load-bearing.
- · Morning: move before checking the phone; the practice loses to the feed otherwise.
- · Night: dim lights first, and let the final pose simply become sleep.
- · A firm mattress does everything; on a very soft one, keep the holds shorter.
