Yoga with a chair

A complete practice for anyone, seated

Chair yoga is not diluted yoga — it's yoga engineered for a different starting point. For anyone with limited mobility, balance concerns, recovery constraints, or simply a body that doesn't get down to the floor easily, the chair makes a full practice possible: twists, folds, strength work, and breath, all from sitting or holding the chair back.

It's also criminally underrated by people who don't need it. Chair-supported balances and seated twists are legitimate training for any body between meetings.

Make it work

  • · Use a stable chair without wheels, on a non-slip surface.
  • · Sit toward the front edge for twists and folds — the backrest is for holding, not slumping.
  • · The chair back is a barre: standing balance work while holding it counts fully.
  • · Progress by reducing hand contact, not by abandoning the chair.
