Yoga in the pool

Buoyancy changes the arithmetic

FeelYoga's signature category. In chest-deep water, buoyancy carries a large share of your body weight — standing poses cost less, getting up and down disappears as a problem, and losing your balance becomes a splash instead of a fall. Meanwhile the water resists every movement gently and evenly, in all directions, which no mat, band, or machine quite replicates.

That combination — less load, more feedback, near-zero fall cost — makes the pool the friendliest possible environment for balance work, for bigger bodies, for older practitioners, and for anyone easing back into movement. It's also simply pleasant, which keeps people practicing.

Pool practice has rules: shallow water only (navel to chest), the edge within reach, never alone, and nothing face-down. FeelYoga pool sequences are standing practices, not swimming workouts.

Make it work

  • · Depth matters: navel-to-chest deep gives support without floating you off your feet.
  • · Keep the pool edge within arm's reach — it's your wall.
  • · Move at half land-speed; the water rewards slow and punishes rushed.
  • · Water-shoes help on slick pool floors; a brimmed hat and sunscreen for outdoor pools.
  • · Cool water shortens comfortable practice time — 20 minutes is plenty in most pools.
