Yoga while traveling

Practices that fit in seat 23B and airport gates

Transit yoga is the art of the possible: seated twists in an airplane seat, calf and hip work at the gate, a standing fold in the quiet corner by the water fountain. None of it looks like a yoga class; all of it changes how you land.

The rule of thumb: every hour of sitting earns two minutes of movement. Nobody at gate B12 has ever once cared what a stretching traveler looks like.

Make it work

  • · In the seat: ankle circles, seated twists using the armrest, shoulder rolls — hourly.
  • · At the gate: standing forward folds, calf stretches on the carry-on handle era, side bends.
  • · Layovers are practice slots: ten walking minutes plus five stretching minutes per hour of layover.
  • · Compression socks plus legs-up-the-wall on arrival is the frequent flyer's ankle-saving double.
