External keyboard + mouse

The mandatory partner to a laptop stand: any basic combo works, because this is about geometry, not features.

Our verdict

This is the least exciting recommendation on the site and one of the most necessary: once your laptop is raised to eye level, you physically cannot type on it, and an external keyboard and mouse are how your hands stay at elbow height while your screen sits at eye height. That separation — screen up, hands down — is the entire ergonomic upgrade. Any basic wireless combo achieves it. Spend more only if you type all day and want nicer keys; the geometry doesn't improve with price.

Buy it if…

  • You're raising your laptop on a stand — this is the other half of that change, not an optional add-on.
  • You want hands at relaxed elbow height instead of climbing up to a raised laptop.

Skip it if…

  • Your laptop stays flat on the desk — then this changes nothing; raise the screen first.
  • You already own any working keyboard and mouse; there is no yoga-specific reason to upgrade them.

What to look for

We link to a search, not a specific listing — models change faster than reviews do. These are the things that actually matter when you compare what comes up:

  • Wireless, to keep the raised-laptop setup tidy — but wired works identically.
  • A flat, low-profile keyboard; a steep incline cocks the wrists upward.
  • A mouse that fits your hand — comfort here is personal, not premium.

Pairs with a course

This item supports our Desk Relief: Yoga for Office Workers course — the practice side of the same problem this gear addresses.

Questions people ask

Do I need an ergonomic split keyboard?
Not for this. The big win is position — screen up, hands down — which any keyboard delivers. Split and tented keyboards address wrist-specific issues; try the basic setup first.
Keyboard first or stand first?
Together — each is useless alone. If you must stagger it, books can stand in for the stand, but nothing stands in for the keyboard.
