Yoga at home

The two square meters that change everything

Home is where yoga actually happens or actually doesn't. The studio version is lovely, but the practice that changes how you feel is the one that fits between breakfast and the first meeting — and that one lives on your floor.

The barrier is rarely time; it's setup friction. A mat that stays unrolled in a corner gets used ten times more than one in a cupboard. Lower the friction to zero and five minutes starts happening by itself.

Make it work

  • · Leave the mat visible and unrolled — a cupboard is where practices go to die.
  • · Claim a spot, however small. Two square meters beside the bed is a complete studio.
  • · Anchor practice to an existing habit: after the kettle goes on, before the shower.
  • · Household items are props: books are blocks, a belt is a strap, couch cushions are bolsters.
